Toucan Workflow: Using the Clip Plane Tool

The Clip Plane tool lets you slice through a point cloud and delete everything on one side of the plane. This is the fastest way to remove the scanning stage and stand.

1. Orient the Point Cloud

First, rotate the point cloud so that the stage is perpendicular to the viewer. The stage should look like a line.

Select the Clip Plane tool from the toolbar.

3. Define the Clipping Plane

Cmd-click right at the point where your target object sits on the stand (which is above the stage). While holding down the Cmd key, drag a red line along the bottom of your object.

4. Complete the Plane Definition

Still holding Cmd, click again to define the plane. You want the red line to divide the stand/stage from your object.

The pink points are the cloud points that will be deleted. If the wrong side of the plane was selected, Shift-click the directional arrow that is perpendicular to the plane to invert the selection.
